The Most Seductive Metal Ever Woven.
There is jewellery that tells the time and there are watches that learned a few tricks from jewellery. This tiny Audemars Piguet Baby Cobra sits right in the middle of that Venn diagram, pretending to be a bracelet until someone looks closer.
The Cobra line is already one of AP’s cult favourites from the 1970s, but this is the seldom seen 17 mm “Baby” case. Most lady Cobras you’ll come across are the larger 20 mm version. Here the case shrinks even further, the bracelet takes over and the whole thing wears like a strip of white-gold fabric wrapped around the wrist.
Then the dial starts causing trouble. AP went full dress night with a slab of deep black onyx framed by a pavé factory diamond border. The contrast is sharp and sexy. The onyx is flawless, the stones are bright and tightly set, and the only printing allowed through the door is a crisp “Audemars Piguet” at twelve. Everything else is left to the materials.
What makes this piece even more fun is hiding inside. For a case this small the easy route would have been quartz. Instead AP fit a manual-wound movement, so there is a proper crown ritual here. You get that little moment of interaction each time you wind it, which feels incredibly satisfying considering how compact the watch is.
The bracelet deserves its own chapter. Each link alternates between rounded high-polish “capsules” and ribbed textured bars that catch the light in different ways. In rows they form a pattern that feels almost woven, yet every link is solid and articulated, so the bracelet flows around the wrist rather than sitting in a straight line. It looks intricate from a distance and becomes addictive to study up close.
Made entirely from 18k white gold, the watch wraps a wrist up to around 15 cm with two additional micro positions in the clasp to fine tune the fit. On the wrist it reads as a slim strip of precious metal with a midnight centre and a ring of diamonds parked exactly where you sign your name or hold a glass. People notice it, then lean in.
For collectors who already know and love the Cobra line, this is the rarest configuration: Baby case, white gold, factory diamond and onyx dial, and a tiny hand-wound heart ticking away inside. For everyone else, it is the moment you realise that AP’s 1970s design studio had a very good sense of style and taste.

In outstanding overall condition, presenting like a piece that spent most of its life in a safe rather than in rotation.
The 18k white gold case shows only light handling marks, with crisp lines and well defined bezel edges.
The factory onyx and diamond dial is immaculate with no cracks or chips in the stone and bright, well matched diamonds set evenly around the perimeter.
The caseback is clean with sharp engravings for the serial, reference and Swiss hallmarks, and retains its original brushed finish.
The hands and sapphire glass are clean, free from visible oxidation, scratches or clouding.
The integrated 18k white gold bracelet is tight and supple.
The manual-wound movement is running and keeping good time at the time of listing.
