A Snake With Good Taste.
The Audemars Piguet Cobra makes a very persuasive case for buying a watch bracelet-first. Spend a moment with its intricate white gold links and you’ll understand why collectors keep coming back to this particular corner of vintage AP.
This circa 1989 example brings together an integrated 18k white gold bracelet, a deep blue dial and twelve diamond hour markers. It’s an appealing place to begin if you’re curious about vintage Audemars Piguet: recognizable watchmaking pedigree, a wonderfully distinctive design, and plenty to admire once you get it on your wrist.
The Cobra nickname makes sense in close-up. Rows of polished oval links alternate with finely ribbed links, forming a dense, scale-like pattern that flows into the softly rounded 27mm case. The same textured treatment surrounds the dial and continues across the clasp, where an applied AP monogram finishes the bracelet beautifully. There’s a great deal of work packed into those little links, and the photographs give you a good excuse to linger over it.
That dark blue dial is a particularly good partner for white gold. Twelve diamonds mark the hours, while faceted dauphine hands bring a little sharpness to the rounded outline. The colour combination feels easy to wear, with enough jewellery appeal to make getting dressed slightly more entertaining.
Inside is Audemars Piguet’s manually wound calibre 2080, giving you a mechanical reason to spend a little time with it each morning. The bracelet fits wrists up to approximately 7.2 inches and can be shortened by a jeweller.
For anyone born around 1989, there’s also a potential birth-year connection, though the dating is approximate. For everyone else, a blue diamond dial and an intricately worked white gold bracelet should provide sufficient justification.

The watch presents in excellent overall cosmetic condition with light surface wear.
The white gold case retains its rounded profile and well-defined textured finish.
The blue dial is well preserved, with clear printing and intact diamond hour markers.
The caseback retains its brushed finish, legible numbering and visible gold hallmark.
The dauphine hands and sapphire crystal appear well preserved.
The integrated white gold bracelet retains crisp polished and ribbed detailing, with light marks to the clasp and its AP monogram intact.
The manually wound calibre 2080 has been inspected by our watchmakers and is keeping accurate time. Previous service history is unknown.
