Skeleton Out of the Closet.
Vacheron Constantin has put the entire movement on display, which means every component needs to earn its place in the room.
The Patrimony Squelette Ref. 33114 is built around the manual-wound Calibre 1003 SQ, skeletonized and extensively engraved by hand. Bridges and plates have been opened until only their essential framework remains, then covered with scrolling foliage reminiscent of antique European furniture. The mechanics become the decoration, with wheels, levers and ruby bearings woven through the engraving rather than hidden beneath a conventional dial.
The mainspring barrel is especially lovely. Positioned prominently beneath twelve o’clock, it is formed as a Maltese cross and signed Vacheron Constantin around its perimeter. This is where the watch stores its power, although Vacheron seems equally concerned with making sure it stores it beautifully.
A solid gold chapter ring surrounds the open movement, with engraved Roman numerals filled in black to match the slender hands. It gives the eye somewhere to land and makes the time genuinely readable. It also solves one of the less glamorous realities of a fully open dial: nobody bought a Vacheron to admire their arm hair through it.
Fitting this much handwork into a case measuring approximately 30mm is part of the achievement. Skeleton watches often depend on a much larger canvas, while the Ref. 33114 compresses the entire performance into the proportions of a traditional dress watch. The slim 18k yellow gold case, compact lugs and original Maltese cross crown keep the profile elegant, while a sapphire display back provides a second view of the engraved Calibre 1003 SQ.
Completed with a black leather strap and its original Vacheron Constantin 18k yellow gold Maltese cross buckle, this is one of the more compelling ways into hand-finished skeleton watchmaking from the Holy Trinity. Everything is exposed, including just how much work went into it.

The watch is in excellent overall vintage condition with light signs of careful wear.
The 18k yellow gold case retains strong proportions with light surface marks consistent with age, while the original Maltese cross crown remains present.
The skeletonized dial and hand-engraved components are beautifully preserved, with crisp black-filled Roman numerals and a clearly signed mainspring barrel.
The sapphire display caseback remains clear, with the Vacheron Constantin engraving and gold hallmarks well defined.
The black hands remain in excellent condition, and the front crystal is clear with no notable marks.
The black leather strap is brand new and is fitted with its original Vacheron Constantin 18k yellow gold Maltese cross buckle.
The manual-wound Vacheron Constantin Calibre 1003 SQ is keeping accurate time at the time of cataloguing.
