A Sporting Turn.
Vacheron Constantin was making some wonderfully thin dress watches in the 1960s. It was also making this. With the Turnograph ref. 6782, Vacheron took the gold watch you’d wear to dinner and gave it a bezel you could use to time the steak.
The 36mm case is made of 18k yellow gold and has a screw-down back, while the ribbed timing bezel turns in either direction. The automatic calibre K1072/1 gives you a sweep seconds hand and a date at three, magnified right through the crystal. Long before the 222 and the Overseas, Vacheron was already figuring out how much sport you could get away with in a gold watch on leather.
Fewer than 100 examples of the ref. 6782 are estimated to have been made across all variants. This one has the rarely seen champagne linen dial, with fine lines crossing like the threads of a shirt. The black stripes on the hands and applied markers give all that texture a clean edge.
The case is in excellent vintage condition, and the best colour is tucked into the places you’d miss on a first look. There’s darker patina between the bezel ribs and a deep plum band around the caseback that carries up toward the crown.

The watch is in excellent vintage condition with visible surface wear and rich patina to the gold.
The 18k yellow gold case retains well-defined lugs and bezel ridges, with fine hairlines along the flanks and plum toning near the crown.
The champagne linen dial retains crisp printing and a clearly defined crosshatch, with a few small spots near the perimeter.
The screw-down caseback shows surface scratches and a legible case number, 445989, with a hallmark visible beneath one lug.
The hands show light oxidation, and the date remains legible through the magnifying crystal.
The black leather strap is fitted with a Maltese cross-style pin buckle.
The automatic calibre K1072/1 is keeping accurate time, with previous service history unknown.
