The Slide, Signed Twice.
There’s already a lot to like about a Coulissante. This one adds another layer.
Produced in the 1950s, this Jaeger-LeCoultre Coulissante carries a double signature from Hermès, a reflection of a long-standing relationship. Jaeger and Hermès actually have a lengthy history working together, dating all the back to the 20s when JLC supplied movements to the first Hermès timepieces. JLC watches were also sold in the Hermès flagship in Paris for years, and there were many co-branded watches and clocks. This one is part of that special collector story.
The construction remains true to the formula. A stainless steel case built around a sliding front panel that conceals the dial until you decide to engage with it. A thumb press sets it in motion, the panel travels cleanly, and the dial appears in full. The action is direct and satisfying, with enough resistance to feel controlled and enough snap to feel complete.
Inside is the Duoplan Calibre 409, wound from the back, which keeps the sides of the case uninterrupted. There's no protruding crown breaking the line, no extra elements competing with the sliding mechanism. The proportions stay compact at 17 × 35mm, and in steel, the watch takes on a slightly more understated tone compared to its gold counterpart, with the same sharp casework doing the talking.
Condition plays a big role here. Edges remain defined, bevels are intact, and the sliding system operates exactly as it should. The dial is clear and may have been restored in the past, with the Hermès signature sitting right where it belongs. It’s been paired with a new strap, ready for regular wear without needing anything further.
For collectors who pay attention to details like retailer signatures and original points of sale, this is where things get interesting. Same idea, same mechanism, with a name on the dial that shifts the conversation.

Overall, the watch presents in excellent vintage condition with strong case definition and a smooth sliding action.
