Patek Philippe’s ref. 2572 makes sense of its Disco Volante nickname at first glance. The slim bezel and crown tucked into the case give it an almost perfectly circular outline. Turn it over, and you get a better sense of how Patek built that flying saucer shape.
The silver dial takes a simpler approach. There are no minute markers, and even the subsidiary seconds register goes without a scale. The applied markers, Arabic 12, and raised enamel signature have plenty of room to breathe, giving it a stripped-down, almost Bauhaus feel. The warm acrylic crystal keeps it rooted in the 1950s. At 36 mm, it was unusually large for its era; inside is Patek Philippe’s manually wound, Geneva-sealed calibre 10-200.
The 14k gold C+B brick bracelet gives this example another reason to stand apart. Its gold purity suggests it may have been made for the American market. It fits wrists up to 7.3 inches, has three additional micro-adjustment positions in the clasp, and can be removed if you fancy wearing the watch on leather. I’d try both, but I have a feeling the bracelet would win most mornings.
