Circle This Classic.
There’s a certain point in collecting where “bigger” doesn’t mean louder, it just means more presence. This is where the Golden Circle 3604 lands.
In the early 1970s, Patek Philippe was already deep into refining its design language beyond traditional round cases. The Ellipse had proven that proportion could carry a watch just as much as complication. The Golden Circle takes that idea and pushes it further. Softer edges, a wider stance on the wrist, and a case that leans into that unmistakable TV-style cushion shape.
At approximately 35mm, it stands as one of the largest vintage cushion cases Patek produced outside of the Beta 21 era. And it wears every bit of it. This is not a small vintage watch trying to pass. It has real wrist presence, closer to what most collectors expect today.
This reference matters for another reason. It was the first Golden Circle to house an automatic movement, the calibre 28-255 C. The same base that would later power the Nautilus 3700. So while it looks like a dress piece from a distance, there’s real substance behind the dial. You get the ease of automatic winding and a date complication, wrapped in something that still feels unmistakably vintage.
Then there’s the dial. That deep blue sunburst is one of those signatures you recognize instantly. It shifts constantly depending on the light, moving from a soft slate to a rich electric blue. The applied markers and hands catch just enough light to frame it without taking over. It’s clean, balanced, and incredibly easy to live with.
But the real personality sits in the bracelet.
This is not your typical integrated bracelet. Each link is tightly formed, almost like interlocking scales, giving it that dense, woven feel. There’s a weight to it, both visually and physically, that changes the entire character of the watch. Importantly, this example remains at full factory length, fitting up to approximately an 8-inch wrist, with the option to size down through a jeweler. Finding these complete is becoming less common, especially in this condition.
Details like the recessed crown keep the silhouette uninterrupted, allowing the case and bracelet to read as one continuous form.
The Golden Circle has always been a favorite among collectors who understand what makes 1970s Patek special. It’s not about excess. It’s about proportion, material, and just enough technical depth to keep things interesting.
