Cartier has always understood that women can approach watches differently. The watch doesn’t necessarily have to dominate the wrist, nor does its importance begin with diameter or complication. For Cartier, it could belong to the same conversation as a bracelet, a ring or any other piece of jewelry, chosen as much for how it completes an outfit as for what it actually does.
This little Ronde is a wonderful expression of that thinking. Made entirely in 18k yellow gold and measuring just 16mm, the watch is absorbed into the bracelet rather than sitting prominently above it. You notice the gold first, then the Cartier dial appears almost as a discovery within it.
The bracelet carries the round Ronde motif beyond the case, beginning with larger open links on either side before transitioning into smaller circular links joined by broad rectangular connectors. The clasp disappears neatly into the sequence, allowing the entire piece to read as one continuous gold bracelet.
The same thinking explains the unusual back-winding construction. With no crown protruding from the side, the case connects cleanly into the bracelet, while a small crown on the reverse, engraved with directional arrows, winds the Cartier-signed manual-wound movement within.
There is proper pedigree behind those 16 millimeters, too. The watch was made in France by Edmond Jaeger as part of Cartier’s longstanding relationship with the manufacture. French eagle hallmarks confirm the 18k gold construction, the caseback carries serial number 133955, and Cartier’s inventory number 22522 appears beneath the winding crown.
Up front, Cartier kept things wonderfully simple: a white dial, Roman numerals mixed with baton markers, blued hands and the Cartier signature. It gives you everything you need from a Cartier dial in an area barely larger than a shirt button.
It is a very complete expression of the bracelet watch: petite proportions, beautiful goldwork and a Cartier-signed mechanical movement tucked inside. The time is almost secondary, and for a piece of jewelry this good, perhaps it should be.
The watch is preserved in very good overall vintage condition with light wear consistent with age.
The 18k yellow gold case remains well defined with light surface wear.
The white Cartier-signed dial is well preserved with crisp printing and blued hands.
The caseback retains serial number 133955 and French eagle hallmarks, with Cartier inventory number 22522 beneath the winding crown.
The crystal remains clear with no signs of wear.
The integrated 18k yellow gold bracelet remains in very good condition and fits wrists up to approximately 6.6 inches.
The Cartier-signed manual-wound movement is wound from the caseback and is functioning properly at time of cataloguing.
